The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

Opening in September of 2009, the Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa became the next offering as a part of Disney Vacation Club. The architectural design and interior theme are built to honor the American Arts & Crafts movement of the 1900s. It was during this time that society began to object to the mechanization of daily life and instead refocused on handcrafted decorative design. As a result, the use of colors, type of furniture, and accessories such as pottery and rugs became more focused on nature’s beauty. This style is clearly evident throughout the Villas.

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is a unique timeshare program that offers vacation points at a variety of locations both on and off Disney property including Walt Disney World and Disneyland. The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa serve as the Club’s first venture to the west and occupy the equivalent of 50 two-bedroom units. Most can be divided into one-bedroom and studio villas offering flexibility for those not requiring as much space.

Architect Peter Dominick was charged with the architectural design of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa including the Villas. The interior is a nod to the National Parks Service lodges of the western United States. High ceilings, vast crossbeams, and an oversized fireplace dominate the main lobby of the building. The lighting is low but comfortable, and decorative stone and woodwork add finishing touches amidst the tapering columns. One will immediately find himself immersed in the themeing and enjoy time well spent in the overstuffed chairs scattered throughout the lobby.

TIP: Guests can learn more about the Arts & Craft movement and its influence on the building by participating in a one hour tour of the hotel. During this experience, you’ll visit with some of the artifacts on display and discover some of the “behind the scenes” magic that went into creating the Grand Californian. Stop by the Guest Services desk in the lobby to schedule your tour.

Perhaps one of the most alluring perks of staying in a Villa at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is its location. Nestled right on the edge of Disney California Adventure park, the building allows guests immediate access to their favorite attractions; a private entrance near Napa Rose, a fine dining restaurant at the hotel, provides a quick entry and exit. Many rooms have views of the park which can be a fun way to wind down after a long day. Disneyland park and Downtown Disney is also just a short walk away.

TIP: Be sure to check out the sliding lobby doors. When closed, they offer a beautiful scene that compliments your stay at the hotel.

The Villas are divided into three categories: studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and three-bedrooms. Each accommodates between four to 12 guests based on the selected category. The rooms feature classic themes from the Golden State complete with rich oak furnishings and cozy fabrics.

All rooms offer spacious accommodations including armoires, dining tables and chairs, and private patios or balconies. Flat panel televisions, Blu-Ray players, hair dryers, microwaves, coffee makers and set ups, irons, and ironing boards are provided. Depending upon the category, additional amenities are included:
