Jambo! We recently had the opportunity as guests on a resort tour sponsored by Disney to step into a newly refurbished Savanna View room at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and, while we posted pictures and information during the tour via our social channels, I’m excited to have the chance to stop and take a closer look at the refreshed space with you.
The previous iteration of the Savanna View rooms (pictured above) featured a design that was heavy on fabric and dark woods. Mosquito netting created a false canopy above each bed, and a balloon valance mounted at the ceiling added visual weight to the sliding door that led to the room’s balcony. The furnishings, while very nice, were oversized, and seemed to cut down on floor space.
The newly refurbished rooms (pictured above) offer a fresher take while still providing an abundance of theming. The carpet has been removed and replaced with a hard surface flooring that replicates hardwood planking. The new bed frames have greater clearance (a theme that is trending throughout the current renovations on Walt Disney World property), thus allowing guests to stow luggage and such underneath. The ceiling fan has been removed in favor of a modern drum lamp, and the heavy valance over the sliding door has been replaced by patterned fabric panels.
The old headboards have been repurposed, backlit, and elevated, and an upholstered section has been added underneath. The sconces on the new accent wall behind the beds have been replaced, and the theming has carried through in the addition of a faux wood crown molding.
The oversized TV cabinet/dresser combo has been replaced by a dresser that features eight drawers, four outlets, and four USB ports. The new kitchenette features a Keurig machine, a mini refrigerator, ice bucket, and four glasses. The larger round table and chair set has been replaced by one that takes up less floor space while still allowing a spot at which to sit and eat. Notice the addition of animation of the African savanna from The Lion King on the back of the kitchenette area.
The bathroom vanity, sinks, and hardware have all been replaced, and lend a clean and warm feel to the space. The tub has been switched out in favor of a glass enclosed shower.
All of the Savanna View rooms at Animal Kingdom Lodge will be refurbished by March 1st, 2020.
