How Much Time is Needed to Travel When Using Disney Transportation? disney-transportation-collage

Time is money when you’re on vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort, but if you are depending on Disney transportation to get you where you need to be, you’re going to need to allow plenty of time.

When Disney tells you to allow up to 90-minutes to travel to your destination when using their transportation, it’s best to heed their recommendation as it really can take this long. Keep in mind that traveling to your destination includes walking to the bus stop/monorail station/boat launch at your resort, waiting for the bus/monorail/boat you need, riding the bus/monorail/boat to your desired location, going through security (if applicable), entering the theme park (if applicable), and finally walking to your desired location.

The general rule of thumb on buses is that they arrive approximately every 20-minutes. Boats tend to be about the same depending on where you’re getting onboard and monorails are typically less of a wait than that. Keep in mind that any of this can vary at any moment depending on what happens to be going on at the time. Sometimes guests need extra assistance when boarding or getting off of the various modes of transportation which can cause delays.

You never know what can cause delays, but if you’re prepared and allow the recommended time, you’re going to be a whole lot less stressed out about arriving on time for your spa appointment or Advanced Dining Reservations. If you simply cannot allow the suggested 90-minutes, we recommend calling a taxi or a Minnie Van through the Lyft app to get you to your destination quicker.

TIP: If you’re traveling to Magic Kingdom and use a taxi or Lyft, have them drop you off at Disney’s Contemporary Resort where you can take a short stroll along the walking path to the front gates of the park.

If you arrive at your destination far earlier than you’d expected, no harm done; take those extra few minutes to enjoy and soak up the scenery around you. Small details can be discovered everywhere you look in the Disney parks and resorts and it can be a lot of fun to find new ones each time you visit.
