Disney Cruise Line Stateroom Number 11006

Notes: This is an accessible 11th floor concierge room located on the back portion of the bump out. It became available to us when all the other one bedroom concierge rooms were booked. We've been told it is a bit larger than the other one bedroom staterooms. Of course there are wide doorways. It is one deck down from the concierge lounge. The veranda is quite spacious. It has four deck chairs, two of them reclining, and a small table. It could easily have accommodated lounge chairs but we didn't request them. The balconies on this floor have clear glass on the lower portion (no metal bars) and clear glass curving over the very top portion. I was worried I wouldn't like it, but it was great. We could use the balcony when it was raining. It allowed plenty of ventilation but cut down on wind on sea days/nights. And the view was very clear. Just lovely. The are two doors leading out to the balcony. They could be a bit tricky to open and close. Both had child locks up high. Bathroom: Quite spacious. Because it is an accessible room, there is no tub. There is a "roll in shower" in one corner with a shower curtain that wraps around the two open sides. Despite a floor drain going around the shower area, a lot of the floor got pretty wet since there was about an inch gap between the curtain and the floor. There is a regular shower head and the rain(?) type. The same dial controls both so I got an unwelcome head drenching each time until I learned not to turn the dial too far when turning off the shower! There is tons of lighting but it still seemed quite dark to me. The tiny high efficiency bulbs just don't produce as much light. There are two sinks but very little counter space since the counter surface curves up and around the sinks. There is a television in the mirror. The bathroom was is good working condition and very clean. It was quite beautiful if not as functional as it could be. The hair dryer can't be used in the bathroom and must be plugged into a specific outlet on the desk in the main area. It has a European style plug. Next time I'll probably bring my own and give it a shot in the bathroom as this was inconvenient. There is also a smaller bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. I didn't use it, but my husband said it was fine. Closets: There is not nearly as much storage space as there is in a one bedroom on the Magic. There are two closets. One is the larger "walk-in" closet. But the design includes two blank walls (not even hooks,) with a couple of short rods on the far wall. There is also a fold down rod half way down. There are no drawers. Next time I will take a couple of collapsible bins. My folded clothes ended up getting very disorganized on the one shelf area. The light was annoying because it shuts off automatically when it doesn't detect certain motion. Then there is a delay for it to come on when the door is opened or arms waved around. The other closet is quite small with a rod that goes from front to back. This also contains the safe (low to the ground, almost on the floor.) in the living area there is a cabinet with some very narrow shelves. Living area: there is a sofa, television, mini fridge in cabinet, coffee table in one area. Next to that there is a dining table and four chairs. Closer to the bathroom, there is a small desk and chair, and some shelves that contain glassware. Bedroom. The bedroom is separated from the living room by a wall - lower half is wood/top half us glass. There is a black out curtain that moves across to provide privacy and block light. On the adjacent wall, there are two pocket doors to further close off the bedroom. The locks could be a bit tricky to latch but necessary to keep the doors from rolling. When closed, the room is very cozy and quiet, and dark with the lights off. The large bathroom is en suite so no need to go out to the main area. The entire stateroom was very, very quiet. So nice. We really never heard much of anything unless the balcony or hall door were open. It was very clean and well maintained. One additional note: Because it is accessible, the door is automatic. This is great when arriving "home". When you swipe your card, the door swings open by itself. When leaving, there is a button to push (metal square with wheelchair like most accessible doors.) It can be opened manually but is pretty heavy. The down side is that the door also closes automatically and can be tough to push back open if it's closing too soon (luggage, kids, etc.) if you can't reach the button. And if you use the button to open the door, you have to wait for it to close. A bit annoying when you are late for something. Overall a great room! There are a few design glitches (in my opinion) but so many positives, too. It's so clean and well maintained.

Notes: This is a Handicap Accessible 1-bedroom suite located on deck 11 forward with an oversized verandah. The room is quite and has easy access to the stairs to get to the concierge lounge on deck 12. Being on the same deck as the pools and cabanas also made the room very convenient. We choose this room as a port upgrade as it was the last 1-bedroom available on our cruise. The added space, location and access to the concierge services made this upgrade well worth the money. However, being a HA suite there are certain aspects that one must consider before choosing this suite. The first and most obvious is the open floor plan of the Master Bathroom that does not have a tub. The bathroom is beautiful and spacious but there are two items that need to be pointed out. First, if you choose to utilize this shower the drains can’t contain all the water (especially on sea days) and the carpet in the master bedroom will get wet. We choose to utilize the enclosed shower in the other bathroom. The second is that there was an odor in the bathroom due to a section of tile that allowed water to seep under. After a few days of maintenance investigating the odor and the persistence of our wonderful steward (Ronald) they found the issue and caulked. However, this did not alleviate the odor as the water damage was already beneath the tiles and additional service would be required. The odor was an annoyance but it did not ruin our cruise. A few other items to point out in this cabin are that there are no draws to store clothes or other items. The nightstand did have small drawers for personal items, but all the clothes need to be stored in the 2 closets (one of which is a walk in) or in your suitcases stored under the bed. Also, the entrance door to the cabin is motorized and can’t be locked from the inside. This was a minor issue as our 3-year-old son quickly discovered he could just push the button in the cabin hallway to open the door (Tip: There is a switch on the motor above the door on the right hand side that can be used to deactivate the motor when placed in the middle position. However, you must remember to place the switch forward again before leaving the cabin or your key card will not open the door). In addition, the door is very heavy and can easily trap or injury a small child. Finally, you had to wait to ensure that the door closed properly each time as on occasion the door would open unexpectedly.

Notes: Handicap room in the 1-bedroom category. Great location, never heard any upstairs or next door noise. Doesn't have tub but does have two showers. Would not really go for this room if don't need the HC accessible amenities because we would have utilized a tub more but we knew going in so not disappointed. Balcony is huge with the furthest bump out on board being balcony. Great view looking down side of ship and very convenient to forward elevators and one floor up to concierge lounge.
