Ship: Disney Dream Stateroom: 5522 Condition: 4
Deck: 5 Category: 8A Location: Forward
  Sail Date: 03/03/17

Notes: The room was huge! Loved the portholes (a great spot to sit and watch fireworks). No split bath, but this wasn't a concern for us. This 8A has the half wall and connects to 5520 (never heard any noise). A relatively remote location, but very quiet. Only issue was a sewage smell coming from the toilet and the sink. I didn't mention anything to our room steward (didn't see him until the last afternoon) or guest services, but probably should have.

Notes: This cruise was actually Nov. 2-6, 2015 but I was not able to select that year in the drop down box. I loved the layout - it was myself and 2 young daughters. The split floor plan and 2 TVs were very nice. They loved the 2 large port holes also. The single bath was fine and plenty of storage in the room. I did not like the location at all. There was a lot of noise from the theater below, kids running to/from Vibe (or whatever kids area is at the end of that hall). Also lots of engine noise and movement. I felt the location of the room made it difficult to get to quickly or easily between character greets or shows or meals. It was not close to pool or Cabanas. When using the forward stairs we would exit into the adult only area and I was uncomfortable running through there with small kids. For our 2nd cruise in 2018 we booked deck 6 mid-ship and it was a much better location for our needs.

Notes: they are pros and cons to this room. pros are the size. the cons are no split bath, only sleeps 3, far from laundry, awkward to get to, and definitely noisy. the noise is from the theatre below but more from mechanical and engine noise.

Ship: Disney Fantasy Stateroom: 5522 Condition: 5
Deck: 5 Category: 9A Location: Forward
  Sail Date: 08/30/14

Notes: Loved this room. It is shaped different then most and it is huge. There are two big seating windows and a half solid wall. Love the wall makes it feel like two rooms. There is so much space in this rrom and I would book it again. However, it can only sleep 3 and does not have a split bath. It does have two TV which is nice with kids. There was a water noice and I figured it out that it was the mini fridge. Might be fixed. Everything worked great in this room. Bed so comphy. You do get noice on anchoring days. My husband liked this room better then when we had an exted balconey room. We loved the space, two TV for night, and the half wall and two windows. Also like being on deck 5 but no one comes down this way so that help it to be quiet. But convient with kids club. Great Room. this room is a cat 8a. But would not let me choose that.

Deck: 5 Category: 8A Location: Forward
  Sail Date: 07/15/14

Notes: This is a real nice room for 2 or 3. The living room is somewhat divided from the bedroom with a partial wall between them.(full height, not full width) Not a split bathroom, the shower was just tall enough for me 6'3". There is a couch that makes into a twin size bed. Also there is a 10 foot countertop in Living area with desk area and drawers. Perfect to place all the FE gifts on and bigger than the one in 5520 Lots of storage for clothing and luggage goes under bed with no problem. Two large portholes. This is near the very front of the ship and the hallways were quiet. We also had cabin 5520, I had to choose between the 2, I would choose 5522 it is slightly larger and had more storage it seemed. 5520 and 5522 are connecting

Notes: I made a video of our room minutes before we debarked from the ship on the last day of the cruise. It was quite rushed and I only had time to do it once - no rehearsals :) Please take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KD7feXvhgQ We specifically chose this room for the our family. We are a family of three and this size room was great for us. They layout of 5522 is very different from the other staterooms. This room is more of a square than a rectangle. As you can see in the video the queen size bed is on one side of the dividing wall and the fold out bed is on the other side of the wall. This is what provides the privacy vs. a curtain in the other Deluxe Family Oceanview staterooms. This layout also provides much more walking space. There was also very limited hall traffic as this stateroom is near the forward of the ship. The only reason to be in this section is if you are going to a stateroom. We really like this room and its layout. The "thorns" of this room are not significant but there are a few. This room does not have the Disney split bath design. Instead of having a sink and toilet in one small room and a separate bath/shower and toilet in another everything is in one small room. This means only one person can be using the bath/toilet at a time. This was a small inconvenience for us. The other thorn is that this room was a bit louder than I expected. I am a very light sleeper. I noticed twice on our week long cruise the noise of the forward bow thrusters during docking maneuvers. There were two times when the ship docked in the night and both times I woke up. I was able to go back to sleep once I recognized what was happening but you should know you can hear the bow thrusters from this room. Another noise related item, this room is directly above the Disney theatre. During the live theatre performances you can hear some of the activity. I only noticed this once during a matinee performance. All of the other times there were performances we were not in our room (either at dinner or at the show). This was not a big deal. I highly recommend this room to smaller families or those who want to have two connecting rooms with this "square" floor plan. 5520 and 5522 are connecting cabins.

Ship: Disney Magic Stateroom: 5522 Condition: 4
Deck: 5 Category: 10A Location: Forward
  Sail Date: 03/09/13

Notes: This Secret Porthole Room was in good condition. The view was only slightly obstructed. Very good choice for the money, if you can get it. Noise from connecting room was minimal. Noise from service room across the hallway was noticeable but never an issue at night. The split bathroom was is great condition and appeared recently overhauled. Noticed a sewage smell a couple of times in the toilet room, but it never permeated to the stateroom. The bottom of the left nightstand was broken and needed a little glue (not reported) the bed spread needed to be replaced and will mostl likely get taken care of in 2013 drydock. The room only has the old style cooler which was disappointing when so many rooms have a real mini fridge. There was a steamer trunk in the room and the TV was a swiveled LCD. It could be viewed from anywhere in the room. The location was great for the theatre and for kids club, however passengers can only access forward staterooms on level 5 via the port side of the ship (starboard side is reserved for crew and staff) took a few days to get used to.

Notes: We are a family of 3 and this is the perfect cabin for us! Love having 2 TVs so there are no fights. Not having a split bath is no problem. Great to have a more divided room and 2 windows. The extra space is definitely worth it. Noise not an issue. We liked it so much booked 5520 for November '13 cruise.

Notes: Great location, convienent to everything. Loved the Secret Port Hole!!! Not too much obstruction, just perfect to check out where we were and what the weather was like outside. The only problem we encountered was very noisy neighbors in the adjoining room which is just the luck of the draw.

Notes: Secret Port Hole Room (SPH) that connects with Room 5524. This is on the Starboard side. The obstructed view is minimal and we would do this room again. No Noise from the connecting room or from the CM door on the opposite side of the hallway. There is a single Steamer trunk in the room.

Notes: Really loved this SPH room. I would stay there again. Minimal noise from the crew door across the hall. Did hear the family in the connecting room, but the SPH made it worth it. Very convienient to the kids clubs, Walt Disney Theatre, the Spa and shops.

Ship: Disney Magic Stateroom: 5522 Condition: 5
Deck: 5 Category: 10 Location: Forward
  Sail Date: 06/20/08

Notes: We love SPH rooms. This location is so convenient for shows, movies, kids clubs, quick trips to the Promenade Deck for a walk/fresh air, bars, gift shops, lobby, disembarking, etc. Yeah, it's a longer trip up to Deck 9, but I need the exercise w/ all the food on board. The view is very slightly obstructed but worth it for a Cat 8 size room at a Cat 10 price. The steamer trunk is in this room. We only heard the shows in the Buena Vista theater below us once when we were dressing for 2nd seating dinner. We're usually out & about during show times. We heard the door the crew uses across from us only a few times (not at night--except for when the luggage was being picked up Fri night), but again worth it to us for the price. If you go to bed REALLY early--this might not be a good room for you, but otherwise a GREAT room. We also loved the wider hallways midship! It feels less enclosed. We also used the tables & chairs midship on this deck, if someone was sleeping & we needed a spot to do something. The views at port were nice. I've been on both sides & like both sides equally.

Deck: 5 Category: 10 Location: Forward

Notes: This room was noisy, sounded like a water tank (under the floor) filling all the time, then a loud flushing sound. It is located across from a crew member area and you could hear their door opening and slamming shut both day and night. Good value and good view, but we found it difficult to sleep at night.

Deck: 5 Category: 10 Location: Forward
  Sail Date: 09/09/06

Notes: This was overall a very nice room. It is nice to have the free window. It is only slightly obstructed if at all. Due to the area around the window being a crew area, make sure you are covered when you exit the shower! I did not hear any noise. I am a deep sleeper. There is a crew access directly across the hall, but this did not seem excessively noisy. During times of embarkation, and the final night there was some more "ambient" noise, but it did not disrupt sleep. The room is very convenient to the Walt Disney Theatre and the Kids Clubs. The WD Theatre is just down the stairs, and the Kids Clubs are down the hall. There was plenty of room for the four of us and all of our personal belongings. This room is an adjoining room (with 5524), but we must have had quiet neighbors as I didn't hear a thing. I only hope they didn't hear us! I look forward to booking this room again as it is a great deal.

Notes: We stayed in 5522 and 5524 connecting "Secret Porthole Rooms". The rooms were wonderful! We did not hear any noise. These staterooms are conveniently located right around the corner from the forward lifts. They're above the Walt Disney Theatre which made it very easy to attend the live shows. The kids' clubs are located on the same floor as the staterooms, also a plus! We had three family members in each stateroom. There was ample drawer space and each room also had a steamer trunk with shelves. We had no problem storing our luggage (we stored suitcases in the closet and under the beds). The beds were some of the most comfortable that we've ever slept in at any resort (including the pull down ceiling beds). We are hoping to book these staterooms again on our next cruise! They are a wonderful value!

Deck: 5 Category: 10 Location: Forward

Notes: We were pleasantly surprised by the size and roominess of this room. It is wonderful to have a view (partially obstructed, but not harldy at all) for the price of an inside cabin. Steamer trunk was present, door didn't always want to remain closed. We loved the location. Just a door down from the forward elevators and stairs. Kid's Clubs on the same floor made for easy access. Just down one flight to the theater. We had no problem with bathroom odors, but did bring a room freshener as suggested on the DIS boards. Good water pressure and temp in shower/bath. Shower head located a bit shorter than normal. Everything in good working order there. TV reception was not the best at times, but not a concern for our family. Staff using utility doors across from us were respectful, noise was not a problem from this area for us. We did hear and feel our neighbors in the non-adjoining room. Wall would shake a bit and some noise was noted when they would turn in at night (thought it might be a result of the bunk bed usage. The adjoining room also shared a little noise, but that was minimal and isolated to the area where the rooms connected. There was plenty of room for our family of 4 (DH,DW,DD7,DD5)utilizing the bunk beds. Curtain mid room to divide sleeping areas in an asset, only problem is that the tv is located on the bunk bed side and not visible from the bed when curtains are drawn. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. We are pillow uses and prefer softer ones. Our room stewardess provided them for us without a problem. You will see cruise workers outside the porthole window on occasion, so beware and use window curtain as needed.

Ship: Disney Magic Stateroom: 5522 Condition: 2
Deck: 5 Category: 10 Location: Forward
  Sail Date: 12/10/05

Notes: This is a secret porthole room that has a door to the adjoining room. You can hear people next door pretty easily through the thin door so noisy neighbours might be a problem. The port hole view is pretty good with a small utility platform and chains that are visible. There is a storage trunk in this room which is handy. There is a crew only access door right across the room which can be heard at night, but it's not that bad. You can hear some noise from the restroom below, but it's infrequent. The upholstery on the sofa and the bed cover could use replacing or cleaning. The main problem we had was sewer gas bubbling into the sink J traps throughout our voyage. There was never any smell, but off and on there were loud gurgling noises. Three complaints to maintenance never did solve the problem. Guest services claimed that this sound was common when the ship is in motion. It was interesting to note that the gurgling sound continued even when docked at all the ports! We kept the washroom doors closed at night since the noise is loud enough to wake you up. Thankfully there was no odor. Video: http://www.zippyvideos.com/1329635762742426/mvi_1028/ The room is one flight up from the Walt Disney Theatre so it's very convenient to get to and from the shows. On the other hand it is quite a trek to get to the food areas as well as the beverage station near the aft of the vessel. Since the Oceaneer lab and club take up a lot of the room on this deck, it's not very crowded. The heat was broken on our first few days so it was quite cold at night, but maintenance repaired the problem quickly.

Notes: This is a hidden porthole room and is, for the most part, a good value. BUT....we had lots of noise underneath the room ...loud noise that is probably from a utility or bathroom below (4th deck around the entrance to the theater). Ddespite lots of reports and complaints to Guest services and housekeeping, it was not corrected or even explained! If you are sensitive to noise, be careful about this room.
