Disney Cruise Line Stateroom Number 5552

Notes: Handicapped-accessible cabin. Located near forward elevators, but not noisy. Verandah was so huge it felt like we were poolside - but no, it was our own verandah. Yes, higher decks can look down, but if you sit back from the railing, they can't see you, so I didn't feel it was a privacy issue. Room and bathroom are very spacious with plenty of room to maneuver a walker and wheelchair. Great location near entrance to Walt Disney Theatre. Does not have the storage shelves in the bathroom that we've been accustomed to in the non-accessible rooms, so I recommend bringing hanging bags for toiletries.

Notes: Just got off the Disney Dream for a 4 night cruise. Stateroom 5552 is an oversized handicap accessible room. It is located on Deck 5 Forward just beyond the elevators. The room sleeps 4 and is HUGE. It also has a very large Veranhah. There are two things I want to point out. The room was very hot. If you have space in your luggage and traveling during the summer, you might want to pack a fan. I asked for one and they said they don’t have one. The second is the electric door opener. I quickly learned there is no lock on the door. Most staterooms have a lock which disables the front key. This room does not. In addition, if you have small children who like to play with the door opening button, the door will keep opening. On the top of the door, there is a switch to turn off the power door. Shut the power off when in the room. And when you leave turn it back on.

Notes: 5552 is an HA (Handicap Accessible) 4E (extended veranda). It is one of the largest non-suite cabins. The cabin is nearly three time the size of a typical cabin (HA cabins are nearly one and a half the size) and the veranda is six times the size of regular veranda. Being on the forward end of deck 5, there is little foot traffic. 5552 is at the beginning of the hall behind the forward elevators and beside the Buena Vista theater. We never heard either. Being at the beginning of the hall, it is ideal for passengers in a wheelchair as there are no room service carts or luggage (last night) to maneuver past. The wheelchair access to the Edge teen club is also on 5 forward. The only issue that we could find with the room was there was a creak when the ship was underway.

Notes: This is a *very* large Handicapped Accessible stateroom located immediately off the Deck 5 Forward elevator lobby. It is just around the corner from the upper level of the Buena Vista movie theater, and two decks above the main seating level for the Walt Disney Theater. Elevator service was not usually an issue. It is not close to dining or the nightlife district, but the midship elevators are fairly close. This cabin sleeps four. It has a queen size bed, a single sofa bed, and a single ceiling pull-down bed. Despite the size of the room, it has the standard issue closets and drawer space. The verandah is one of the largest on the ship! We did often hear noise from shuffleboard directly below while on the verandah. Note that this verandah extends further from the ship than those on other decks, so people above can look directly down onto your deck. But, you will have lie-flat lounge chairs for sunning, room to throw a party, etc. So just keep it family friendly! This balcony also abuts a lifeboat, so you only have neighbors on one side. We felt the boat did not affect the view. The automatic door on this stateroom is a nice feature if you are on wheels or otherwise need assistance, but if you aren't, the door stays open a long time and will does not take kindly to a manual assist to close. So, you just have to be patient and wait for it to do its own thing. If you are in a rush to leave the room, you have to wait ... not long but you can't really run out of the room. If no one in your party uses a wheelchair, I believe the auto-open and -close feature can be disabled. Absolutely zero issues with the bathroom. The shower was a great size allowing for maneuverability and we didn't experience any issues with the water wandering all over the bath. This room does not have a connecting door to the next cabin, but we were able to open the balcony divider between our cabin and the one next door. This was our second H.A. cabin on a Dream-class ship, and we liked this cabin better than our mid-ship balcony on Deck 6 (on a previous cruise) due to the proximity of the theaters and the elevator and due to the very large balcony.
