Disney World Refurbishments & Ride Closings

There is nothing worse than anticipating a specific Disney attraction, and after you arrive, finding out that it will be closed for the duration of your stay.

Below is a complete list of the Walt Disney World rehab and refurbishment schedules that you can expect in the upcoming weeks and months. You can't plan for sudden closings, but you can manage your expectations by referring to the list below before your Disney vacation. Not all "shut downs" are scheduled, and there are countless reasons why an attraction might suddenly close. Don't get mad at the cast members, it's not their fault. Things at the parks have to be maintained regularly in order to continue working properly.

Magic Kingdom Refurbishments

  • Walt Disney World Railroad - To make way for the largest expansion in history at Magic Kingdom, the Walt Disney World Railroad will be operating under a modified route that excludes Frontierland station beginning July 7, 2025. The attraction will operate as a shuttle between Main Street station and Fantasyland station only.

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – will close for an extended refurbishment on January 6, 2025. It will reopen in 2026.

  • Liberty Square Riverboat - The last day to experience the Liberty Square Riverboat was July 6, 2025. The attraction and Rivers of America will close permanently on July 7, 2025.

  • Tom Sawyer Island - The last day to experience Tom Sawyer Island is July 6, 2025. The location will close permanently on July 7, 2025.

  • Astro Orbiter in Tomorrowland – will close for a multi-month refurbishment starting January 13, 2025. The ride is scheduled to reopen in summer 2025.

  • Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland – will go down for refurbishment starting August 4, 2025, until 2026. No official start and finish dates have been announced.

  • Cool Ship is temporarily closed for refurbishment and is expected to reopen later in 2025.

  • Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid – will temporarily close for routine refurbishment on July 21, 2025, and is expected to reopen on July 26, 2025.

EPCOT Refurbishments

  • Test Track – Closed for refurbishment; reopening July 22, 2025.

  • Spaceship Earth Beginning August 25, 2025, Spaceship Earth will be temporarily closed for a routine refurbishment and is expected to reopen later this year. GEO-82 will still be available for Guests to enjoy.

EPCOT Refurbishments

Animal Kingdom Refurbishments

  • It’s Tough to Be a Bug closed permanently on March 17, 2025, to make way for a new Zootopia show which debuts in late 2025.
  • The last day to experience The Boneyard is September 1, 2025. The attraction will close permanently on September 2nd to make way for Tropical Americas.

Hollywood Studios Refurbishments

Disney Springs

  • Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – Temporarily unavailable
  • Beginning March 3, the West Side Starbucks will be temporarily closed for routine refurbishment and is anticipated to reopen mid-summer. The Marketplace Starbucks will remain open to guests during this time.

ESPN Wide World of Sports

  • NONE

Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach Water Park

  • NONE

Disney Transportation

  • The Disney Skyliner will be closed for routine maintenance from January 25-31, 2026. Buses will be available to and from all Disney Skyliner Resorts throughout the planned closure. Buses and FriendShip Boats will be available for guests traveling between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Walt Disney World Resort Hotel Refurbishments

NOTE: Our listings are only for those refurbishments that will likely have an impact on the majority of guests. When it comes to changing out furniture and such in guest rooms, this is fairly routine as Disney is always updating its resorts. Unless it's a full scale remodel, it's considered standard maintenance and is not included in our refurb/rehab schedule.

  • Animal Kingdom Villas
  • Beginning in September, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village will undergo exterior maintenance, with work expected to conclude by late December. These enhancements may impact views from various locations throughout the Resort. During this period, views of the Sunset Savanna from Sanaa may be partially or completely obstructed. Animal viewing will be available from the Savanna Outlook adjacent to the restaurant during daytime hours. Guests are welcome to enjoy these views prior or after their dining experience.

  • All-Star Movies

  • All-Star Music Resort

  • All-Star Sports

    Surfboard Bay Feature Pool Refurbishment: From January 2026 until late April, the Surfboard Bay Pool and Kiddie Pool at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort will be closed for maintenance. During this time, guests are welcome to use the Grand Slam Leisure Pool at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort, as well as all other pools at Disney’s All-Star Resorts—including the Calypso, Kiddie, and Piano Pools at All-Star Music, and the Fantasia, Kiddie, and Duck Pond Pools at All-Star Movies.

  • Art of Animation Resort

  • Bay Lake Tower - Disney's Contemporary Resort
    From Sept. 2024-Sept. 2025, room refurbishment work will take place in Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. During this time, rooms will be taken out of inventory, with work beginning on the South side then moving to the North side of the resort. Guests will see and hear construction work throughout Bay Lake Tower. Additionally, the Skybridge may experience intermittent closures. Please allow extra time for travel as alternate paths may be utilized.

    From January 26, 2026, to early May 2026, the Bay Cove Pool, Bay Cove Water Play Area, and Bay Cove Pool Spa at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be closed for maintenance. The Contemporary Feature Pool, Water Play Area, and Spas, and the Bay Lake Pool at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will remain open for Guests to enjoy. Guests may see or hear construction until the work is completed in May.

  • Beach Club Resort
    2025 Exterior Rehab and Porte Cochere Repairs: The porte cochere at Disney’s Beach Club Resort will undergo scheduled maintenance from early June 2025 through September 2025.

    Shipwreck Pool and the Flying Jib Slide Refurbishment: Shipwreck Pool and the Flying Jib Slide at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts are currently closed for routine maintenance and are expected to reopen in July 2025. During this time, Guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours. Stormalong Bay and other leisure pools, including Tidal, Admiral and Dunes Cove, remain available for Guest use.

  • BoardWalk Resort & Villas
  • Beginning in September, the Screen Door General Store, Disney’s Character Carnival, and Thimbles & Threads at Disney’s BoardWalk will each undergo refurbishment. While one store is closed for construction, you are welcome to shop at and enjoy the other two stores that are available.

  • Caribbean Beach Resort


  • Contemporary Resort
    From Sept. 2024 - Sept. 2025, room refurbishment work will take place in Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. During the refurbishment, Guests will see and hear construction work throughout Bay Lake Tower. Additionally, the Skybridge may experience intermittent closures. Please allow extra time for travel as alternate paths may be utilized.

    Chef Mickey’s Kitchen - Chef Mickey’s kitchen will undergo a two-phase refurbishment beginning this summer. Chef Mickey’s will remain open during both phases of the work.

    Phase 1 – June 16 through late August

    • Refurbishment work will begin on June 16.
    • During this phase, there will be no noise or visual impacts to Guests.

    Phase 2 – Beginning August 25 through early November

    • Phase 2 will begin on August 25.
    • During this time, Guests may hear noticeable construction noise between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

  • Coronado Springs Resort

  • Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

    Meadow Swimming Pool Expansion: Beginning early May 2025, construction will begin for an additional pool at the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool area. The tennis court will be refreshed to accommodate both tennis and pickleball. The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool and Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool will remain open. Guests using bus transportation should get off at the Meadow Trading Post Bus Stop to access the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool. The nearby tennis courts, volleyball court and the Meadow Recreation Area Playground will be closed temporarily. Guests may see and hear construction in the area until the work is complete.

    Campfires and Wood-Burning Activities Temporarily Not Permitted: Due to dry conditions in Central Florida, campfires at campsites and any wood-burning activities are temporarily not permitted for guests. Resort-sponsored activities, including our hosted campfires, will continue as scheduled.

  • Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
    As part of the ongoing enhancements at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, phased updates to the lobby, convention center and select areas will begin April 14th. Portions of the lobby will close at times, and guests may encounter changes to their path of travel. While construction activity will be noticeable during daytime hours, efforts will be made to minimize disruptions, and all pools, dining and other amenities will remain available. As Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa continues its renovations, the gingerbread display will not be available during the holiday season in 2025.

  • Old Key West

  • Polynesian Village Resort, Bungalows, & DVC Tower
    Entryway and Bus Loop Work: As part of enhancements at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, updates to the Resort front entrance and bus area will take place in phases, beginning in May 2025. Guests may experience adjustments to their path of travel, and parking may be impacted at times. While construction activity will be noticeable during daytime hours, efforts will be made to minimize disruptions, and all resort dining, pools and amenities will remain available.

  • Pop Century Resort

    From late March 2025 to mid-February 2026, guest rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort will undergo refurbishment. While all resort amenities will remain available, you may notice construction during daytime hours.

  • Port Orleans French Quarter

  • Port Orleans Riverside

    From early May 2025 through the end of February 2026, guest rooms in the Magnolia Bend at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside will undergo refurbishment. While all Resort amenities will remain available, guests may see and hear refurbishment work during daytime hours. Disney cast members will be available to assist guests with alternate paths of travel during construction.

  • Riviera Resort

  • Saratoga Springs

  • Wilderness Lodge, Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

    From mid-May 2025 to September 2025, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will undergo refurbishment. While all Resort amenities will remain available, you may notice refurbishment work during daytime hours.

  • Yacht Club Resort
    2025 Exterior Rehab and Porte Cochere Repairs: The porte cochere at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will undergo scheduled maintenance from early July 2025 through October 2025.

  • Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin

Term & Descriptions

  • SEASONAL OPERATION:  The attraction only opens during periods of anticipated peak attendance. Check Guest Relations and Park Guide maps for specific opening/closing times.
  • REHAB:  The attraction is closed for routine maintenance.
  • REFURBISHMENT:  The attraction is closed for an extended period for extensive repairs/remodeling.
  • DARK: This term is used when a performance of a stage show is not scheduled
