Disney World Refurbishments & Ride Closings

There is nothing worse than anticipating a specific Disney attraction, and after you arrive, finding out that it will be closed for the duration of your stay. Below is a complete list of the Walt Disney World rehab and refurbishment schedules that you can expect in the upcoming weeks and months. You can't plan for sudden closings, but you can manage your expectations by referring to the list below before your Disney vacation. Not all "shut downs" are scheduled, and there are countless reasons why an attraction might suddenly close. Don't get mad at the cast members, it's not their fault. Things at the parks have to be maintained regularly in order to continue working properly.

Magic Kingdom Refurbishments

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – will close for an extended refurbishment on January 6, 2025. It will reopen in 2026.

  • Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse – will close for refurbishment on November 18, and will reopen on December 20, 2024.

  • Test Track – Closed for refurbishment; reopening date TBA

Animal Kingdom Refurbishments

  • Last day for TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures at Animal Kingdom is Jan. 12, 2025. Tropical Americas construction walls go up Jan. 13. DINOSAUR, the Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites stay open for now.

Disney Springs

  • The main Vivoli il Gelato is temporarily closed for renovations, but there are carts setting the gelato and sorbetto near the entrance of the store and near the LEGO store.
  • Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – Temporarily unavailable

ESPN Wide World of Sports

  • NONE

Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach Water Park

  • Typhoon Lagoon is temporarily closed for seasonal refurbishment.

Disney's Golf Courses

  • NONE

Walt Disney World Resort Hotel Refurbishments

NOTE: Our listings are only for those refurbishments that will likely have an impact on the majority of guests. When it comes to changing out furniture and such in guest rooms, this is fairly routine as Disney is always updating its resorts. Unless it's a full scale remodel, it's considered standard maintenance and is not included in our refurb/rehab schedule.

  • Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas
  • Beginning in September, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village will undergo exterior maintenance, with work expected to conclude by late December. These enhancements may impact views from various locations throughout the Resort. During this period, views of the Sunset Savanna from Sanaa may be partially or completely obstructed. Animal viewing will be available from the Savanna Outlook adjacent to the restaurant during daytime hours. Guests are welcome to enjoy these views prior or after their dining experience.

  • Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

  • All-Star Movies
  • From January 2025 through April 2025, Fantasia Pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will be closed for routine maintenance. Guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours. During this time, guests are welcome to swim in the Duck Pond Pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort.

  • Bay Lake Tower - Disney's Contemporary Resort
    From Sept. 2024-Sept. 2025, room refurbishment work will take place in Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. During the refurbishment, Guests will see and hear construction work throughout Bay Lake Tower. Additionally, the Skybridge may experience intermittent closures. Please allow extra time for travel as alternate paths may be utilized.

  • Disney's Beach Club Resort
  • Walt Disney World has announced that from January 2025 through May 2025, Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts will be closed for routine maintenance. They’ve advised that guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours. During this closure, guests are able to use the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools.

  • Disney's BoardWalk Resort & Villas
  • Beginning in September, the Screen Door General Store, Disney’s Character Carnival, and Thimbles & Threads at Disney’s BoardWalk will each undergo refurbishment. While one store is closed for construction, you are welcome to shop at and enjoy the other two stores that are available.

    Starting October 28, the Inn Leisure Pool will be closed for refurbishment and is expected to reopen in late December. During this time, Guests can continue to enjoy both the Luna Park Pool and the Villas Leisure Pool. Guests may see and hear construction during daytime hours.

  • Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

  • Disney's Contemporary Resort
    From Sept. 2024 - Sept. 2025, room refurbishment work will take place in Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. During the refurbishment, Guests will see and hear construction work throughout Bay Lake Tower. Additionally, the Skybridge may experience intermittent closures. Please allow extra time for travel as alternate paths may be utilized.

  • Disney's Coronado Springs Resort

  • Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

  • Disney's Grand Floridian
    Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is currently undergoing refurbishment. Guests will be able to see and hear construction around the resort – including the lobby – during daytime hours. Most Resort hotel amenities will remain available. Please allow for extra travel time.

  • Disney's Old Key West

  • Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, Bungalows, & upcoming DVC
  • As Disney prepares for the proposed expansion at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, you will see and hear construction at certain times of day. To minimize disruptions during your stay, activities that may create noise will not start earlier than 9:00 am.

  • Disney's Pop Century Resort

    From now through the end of November, the Everything POP Food Court will be under refurbishment. Please be prepared to utilize alternate entrances to the food court. Dining room seating may be limited.

    Beginning September 30, the Everything POP Merchandise Shop at Disney’s Pop Century Resort will undergo refurbishment. The work will occur in two phases, and part of the store will remain open during refurbishment so that Guests will still be able to shop. The store is expected to fully reopen in mid-December. Please be aware that Guests may see or hear maintenance work in the area until the work is complete.

    From late March 2025 to mid-February 2026, guest rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort will undergo refurbishment. While all resort amenities will remain available, you may notice construction during daytime hours.

  • Disney Port Orleans French Quarter
    From May 2024 through spring 2025, some guest rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter will be under refurbishment. Guests may see or hear construction work during daytime hours. Most Resort hotel amenities will remain available.

    From December 16 through December 21, the Doubloon Lagoon Pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter will be closed for refurbishment. Guests are invited to use the Ol’ Man Island Pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside as well as all the leisure pools at French Quarter and Riverside. Complimentary shuttle transportation will be available. During this time, Guest may see or hear refurbishment work in the area.

  • Disney's Port Orleans Riverside
    From early April 2025 through the end of January 2026, guest rooms in the Magnolia Bend at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside will undergo refurbishment. During this time, guests may see or hear construction work in the area.

  • Disney's Riviera Resort
    Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort will be unavailable January 12-25, 2025, for planned maintenance.

  • Disney's Saratoga Springs

  • Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

    Starting August 5, 2024, Copper Creek Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge will undergo exterior refurbishment work. During this time, Guests may see and hear construction work during daytime hours.

    Beginning July 13, 2024, horseback riding will be temporarily unavailable Monday through Friday at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, due to construction. However, rides may be available on Saturdays and Sundays during this time. Check the My Disney Experience mobile app on Friday of each week to see if horseback riding is happening on the following Saturday and Sunday—and if available, reserve a ride.

    From mid-May 2025 to September 2025, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will undergo refurbishment. While all Resort amenities will remain available, you may notice refurbishment work during daytime hours.

  • Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Term & Descriptions

  • SEASONAL OPERATION:  The attraction only opens during periods of anticipated peak attendance. Check Guest Relations and Park Guide maps for specific opening/closing times.
  • REHAB:  The attraction is closed for routine maintenance.
  • REFURBISHMENT:  The attraction is closed for an extended period for extensive repairs/remodeling.
  • DARK: This term is used when a performance of a stage show is not scheduled
