Disney's Grand Floridian Resort Overview

GRAND FLORIDIAN RESORT

Billed as Disney’s “flagship resort,” Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is exquisite with its combination of Victorian style and modern day amenities. The inspiration of the resort comes from San Diego’s venerable Hotel Del Coronado and can be felt from its verandas, dormers and cupolas, red-gabled roofs and intricate gingerbread trim.

GRAND FLORIDIAN RESORT

A breathtaking 5-story-high atrium lobby is capped with light filtering stained-glass domes. Glistening chandeliers, an aviary and a grand piano add to the lavish ambiance here. This distinct form extends to the monorail stop that is designed to resemble a Victorian train station.

Upon their arrival at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, guests are escorted by a cast member to the front desk of the main building for their check-in process. If you've arrived via airport shuttle, check-in for the Villas can be completed here as well. Guests who opted for “Resort-to-Room Check-In” may go directly to their villa instead after their room number has been communicated via text or email. For those staying at the Grand Floridian for the first time, it is worth visiting the front desk for the full experience. You’ll be given important information about the resort grounds and amenities including for those at the Villas.

TIP: Be sure to look at the walls behind the front desk counter. There you'll see stacks of metal keys which were the originals used at the resort before switching over to personalized key cards.

This resort is a glorious place to have a comfortable seat on one of the gorgeous pieces of Victorian furniture.

Grand Floridian Resort Rooms

Elegance and sophistication are the overriding themes within the rooms. Glossy tones of oyster, taupe and gold with accents of terra-cotta compose the very clean and comfortable ambiance. The rooms have glass-paned doors that slide open onto patios or balconies. Picturesque views of the Seven Seas Lagoon or the Grand Floridian marina are available from more than half of the 900 rooms at the Grand Floridian. Garden views overlook the lush, landscaped gardens, Pool/Marina views overlook the interior courtyard pool or the marina, and Lagoon views offer a view of the Seven Seas Lagoon. All rooms come with an alarm clock with mp3 player, mini fridge, ceiling fan, coffee maker with coffee and tea setup, evening turndown service, hair dryer, ice bucket, safe, iron and ironing board, minibar, pool towels, robes, table and chairs, telephone, television, and triple sheet bedding. Standard guestrooms average about 448 square feet and typically have two queen sized beds, (or one king sized bed) and a daybed (in rooms with 2 queen beds).

A typical guestroom sleeps 5, but the Lodge Tower and Concierge Deluxe rooms sleep 4. Dormer or "attic" rooms at the Grand Floridian are in the upper floors under the gabled roofs. These rooms are slightly smaller than the Standard guest-rooms but appear larger because of the vaulted ceilings. A private balcony compensates for the lack of room size. Dormer rooms sleep 4 adults.

There are 26 one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites available. Suites have two queen sized beds, or one king sized bed, and a separate parlor area with a wet bar. These rooms can sleep between 4 and 10 adults, depending on the suite type. These suites may include a hamper and upscale line of toiletries in the bathrooms, padded satin hangers, and larger screen televisions.

There are 6 honeymoon rooms in the towers of the main building. The whirlpool honeymoon rooms have a jetted tub of course, and a balcony, but no wet bar or walk-in closet. Octagon-shaped honeymoon rooms are larger than the whirlpool rooms, but do not have the jetted tub or private balcony. Instead, you'll find a spectacular view with windows all the way around the suite.

The following is a breakdown of the buildings and the type of accommodations found there:

  • Sago Cay: lagoon/marina view rooms, garden view dormer rooms, lodge tower rooms, hospitality suites and one- and two-bedroom suites
  • Sugar Loaf: concierge rooms
  • Conch Key: hospitality suites, one- and two-bedroom suites, pool/marina/lagoon views
  • Boca Chica: standard guest rooms, lagoon, pool, dormer and tower rooms

For children, there is an interactive water play area with an Alice in Wonderland theme. Teacups and teapots pour water amongst the two miniature water slides, sprinklers and spouts. And with an upside-down Mad Hatter’s hat that fills with water and then dumps onto guests when it fills, the area is widely popular with little ones.
