Walt Disney World Hearing Disability Information

HEARING DISABILITY ASSISTANCE AT DISNEY WORLD

From the simplicity of a pad and pen/pencils to the sophistication of Handheld Captioning, there are a number of accommodations for guests with hearing disabilities.

Assistive Listening Systems

Disney’s Handheld Devices feature Assistive Listening, which amplifies sound through headphones or an induction loop at specific theme park attractions. Recommended for guests with mild to moderate hearing loss, Disney’s Handheld Devices are available from Guest Relations at all 4 theme parks on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a fully-refundable $25 daily deposit for use. (The device must be returned on the same day in order to receive a refund.)

Handheld Captioning

This system uses a wireless handheld receiver that displays text where fixed captioning systems are not an option, such as moving attractions. Receivers are available at Guest Relations at the four Disney theme parks and requires a $25.00 deposit. (The unit must be returned on the same day for a refund.)

The Handheld Captioning units receive infrared signals from transmitters located at the rides/attractions. These transmitters prompt the unit (similar to a Personal Data Assistant - PDA) to display the illuminated text. Once it's activated at Guest Relations, it will automatically turn on when receiving a signal.
